The sport grade model evolved from the GT Twin-turbo to the Tourer, while the 6-cylinder Super Deluxe grade was absorbed by the Super Lucent grade at the start of this model generation.
The gasoline engine lineup ranged from a 1.8-liter 120 PS unit to a 3-liter 220 PS unit. Of these, the twin-turbo 2.5-liter engine produced the highest output at 280 PS. In addition, a 2.4-liter 4-cylinder 97 PS turbo diesel engine was made available. The suspension was of a 4-wheel double wishbone type, to which a number of advanced technologies were combined, including the electronically controlled TEMS suspension, 4-wheel anti-lock braking (ABS), and torque-sensing limited slip differential (LSD). An electronically controlled full-time 4-wheel-drive model was added to the line in October 1993.
